Darren Rosenblum is a Professor at Pace Law School, and once taught at Fordham University, he wrote in a recent op-ed: “Parents, in short, often end up being an LGBT teen's worst enemy. As our society finally faces up to the incessant bullying that has victimized LGBT teens, we need to recognize that the real threat to these kids is in their own homes.” This rather odd rhetoric is in reaction to recently released data concerning the large numbers of gay runaway teens. I covered this same topic on my blog, see: http://www.josephsciambra.com/2013/08/gay-youth-far-from-happy-run-away-in.htmlOnly, my conclusions could not be more different. With regards to Rosenblum, his stance is the same one which was officially taken by the Obama Administration and numerous gay rights groups: that prejudice and persecution towards those with a homosexual orientation is the cause of all their unhappiness, depression, and suicidal tendencies; especially among youth. Only through more legislation and education can balance and harmony be found. Rosenblum goes even further: to pit child against parents – giving the example of “reparative therapy.” This brings to mind childhood images from the creepiest “Star Trek” episode “And the Children Shall Lead” where the killer-kids slaughter all the grown-up on a planet. Yet, they utterly fail to look at the sexual dysfunction itself as the possible source. It’s almost as if you were to blame the fear and ignorance which often influences the mistreatment of those with AIDS, as the cause for the victims eventual death; not the disease. In addition, Rosenblum, and others, attack the homes from which these lost gay children come from as the breeding-ground for a young homosexual person’s first feelings of self-doubt and hate. But, in all likelihood, families in which children are summarily thrown-out, also points to a domestic environment that is already dysfunctional: therefore creating an atmosphere in which homosexuality can develop.
