In Barack Obama’s official proclamation as President declaring June 2014 “Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender Month,” he wrote:
“This month, as we mark 45 years since the patrons of the Stonewall Inn defied an unjust policy and awakened a nascent movement, let us honor every brave leader who stood up, sat in, and came out, as well as the allies who supported them along the way. Following their example, let each of us speak for tolerance, justice, and dignity -- because if hearts and minds continue to change over time, laws will too.”
What about the Stonewall Inn? What was it? And, should it be celebrated? Here, are the words of an actual participate in the now legendary Stonewall Riots:
“Back then I wasn’t as big as I am now — I was 5′-7″, about 130 lbs. I was a 19 year old male prostitute. In ’69, I was a prostitute; because I’d been kicked out of home and I was living on the streets and I had to survive. The Stonewall Inn was made up of the dregs of the community. Transgenders and transsexuals were not allowed in many of the gay clubs. And the Stonewall Inn was mostly prostitutes and drug addicts, and drag queens and transgenders. It was not your respectable gay club.”
Therefore, should we now commemorate the fallen hours of so many disregarded and abused men? Their plights were tragic, and they did not deserve violence. What they needed was Love; and not the base and transitory love of this world; but, the healing Love that can only be found in Jesus Christ. What have we all done since then? Sadly, only the pain has been perpetuated and a citadel of lies built around a mythological god who represents a desperate need for acceptance and a false idea of gay liberation. There was nothing noble about that night; it was devastating, and it was sad: the hopeless pleas of hurt men in need of solace.
