Celebrity wedding planner David Tutera and his estranged husband, Ryan Jurica have each taken sole custody of one of their surrogate fraternal twins. Since their break-up this New Year's Day, the Los Angeles-based couple have been fighting a bitter court battle to come up with a suitable arrangement for their son and daughter, born on June 19, 2013. Ryan even accused his former partner of using prostitutes to feed his sex addiction at one point, in a bid to win authority over both newborns. David and Ryan, who had a civil union in Vermont in September 2003 and later registered as domestic partners in California, had been trying for several years to start a family. They had given up hope, but six weeks before they broke up they found out that a surrogate had become pregnant with their twins. Despite their relationship coming to an end they decided to go through with the pregnancy.
I guess things aren’t so rosy in the make-believe world of gay men as the new Ozzie and Harriet. This high-profile gay break-up arrives on the heels of other celebrity same-sex divorces including “Glee” star Jane Lynch and her divorce from wife of three years; Cheyenne Jackson and his husband of two years; Zachary Quinto, of “Star Trek,” split from boyfriend of one year Jonathan Groff. Although there have been several junk-science studies done in the US, that reportedly prove the divorce rate is lower in States which allow same-sex marriage; the trends are far too new in America for any reliable data to be collected at the present time. Conversely, Scandinavia, which has a longer history of homosexual tolerance, had produced some interesting studies. For instance: in Norway and Sweden – “the divorce risk in partnerships of men appears 50% higher than the corresponding risk in heterosexual marriages, and that the divorce risk in partnerships of women is about the double of that of men.”
